THE ANSWER, EXPLAINED

WHAT YOU MAY FEEL

During an adjustment, your chiropractor applies a controlled force to a joint. You may notice pressure, movement, a brief stretching sensation, or a popping sound. An adjustment should not feel sharply painful.

WHAT’S THE POPPING SOUND?

Sometimes a popping or cracking sound occurs when gas moves within a joint. The sound itself is not a measure of whether the adjustment worked, and some adjustments make no sound.

AFTER YOUR VISIT

Some people feel looser right away. Others may experience temporary soreness or no immediate change. Tell your chiropractor about any unusual or worsening symptoms.

Is an adjustment safe?

Your chiropractor reviews your health history and symptoms to determine whether chiropractic treatment is appropriate. Ask questions, mention health conditions, and speak up if anything is uncomfortable.
